For this Supplement Secrets product review I have chosen to focus on a premium whey protein product. A number of sports nutrition brands offer a range of whey protein powders and their range often includes a premium option. The focus of this review is the premium whey protein offering from BULK POWDERS®. The product is called INFORMED WHEY®.

INFORMED WHEY® Protein Powder

I have always been a bit dubious about ‘premium’ whey protein supplements. They are often priced higher than alternatives, so are they worth the extra money?

To find out I decided to try out INFORMED WHEY® protein powder. This product is part of the the Pro Series range, which is a premium selection of supplements with a transparent ingredient list, so you know exactly what is included in each product. Every product is Informed Sport accredited, meaning that Informed Whey protein powder has been tested for any banned substances in an independent laboratory. The products also come in a darker, more premium looking packaging to differentiate from the company’s other supplement ranges. informed by sport logo

This protein powder is available in a range of flavours including Double Chocolate, Chocolate Hazelnut Biscuit, Salted Caramel & Walnut, Strawberries & Cream, Caramel Latte and the flavour I tried, Vanilla Bean. The diverse range of flavours certainly means you’ll be able to find one that suits your preference.

INFORMED WHEY® Ingredients

A 30g serving of INFORMED WHEY® provides 24g of protein, meaning an 81% protein content. The protein is served via the mTOR Whey Complex™which consists of micro-filtered whey isolate and undenatured whey protein, which is high in amino acids, which are essential for muscle growth. Leucine, the most important amino acids for muscle growth is also a key ingredient, with 3g per serving.

There are some other ‘premium’ ingredients. DigeZyme® is a blend of digestive enzymes, including protease, amylase, lactase, lipase and cellulase, which assist the digestion process. LactoSpore® is a probiotic, which is promoted as having various health benefits [1].

BULK POWDERS sell a number of other high quality whey protein products, so the real question is should you spend the extra money on INFORMED WHEY®?

Let’s take a look at how the macros and price vary between INFORMED WHEY®, Pure Whey Protein and Pure Whey Isolate 90, which are all whey protein powders available from BULK POWDERS, before we come to a decision:

What Do I think of INFORMED WHEY®?

There’s no doubting that INFORMED WHEY provides a great source of protein, with a low carbohydrate and fat content. It tastes great, mixes very well and has a good texture. When it comes to value for money, essentially you’re paying for the transparency of ingredients and the knowledge that you will be consuming a high quality product.

Overall, I would certainly recommend INFORMED WHEY® protein powder. If you are not sure about the additional cost then Pure Whey Protein or Pure Whey Isolate are great alternatives.
